Green Oasis on Fifth Floor

Greece, November – December 2014

 

In the last two months of 2014, a group of seven people from Athens carried out a special project for a large non-profit organisation called ”Praksis”. The organisation works with volunteers and helps the community in many ways, such as receiving immigrants from all over the world and helping them with the required papers. It offers homeless people a place to shower or to stay during the day as well as providing clothing, medical care and access to hostels. They also provide a day care service for children, this gives the parents the opportunity to seek employment and the possibility to go to work. Their latest achievement is the provision of an extensive library in various languages.

Our plan was to enhance the appearance of an outdoor sitting area on the fifth floor of the building for the homeless in downtown Athens. Using a lot of plants and some old wood from our homes, we arranged various sitting areas, planted small trees and plants and protected the whole terrace with a bamboo fence.

The final touch was provided by adding some small laminated posters containing positive messages and posting them throughout the building.

In spring, when the plants get greener and the flowers start blossoming, the new garden will reveal its full beauty. The green oasis in the midst of all the cement and misery of the surrounding area will certainly by appreciated by all the visitors.
At the end of the project, the Holosophic Society Greece was pleased to receive a thank you letter from the central office of “Praksis”.

PRAKSIS uses as a motivating power for its activities people as such as you who with their generosity help make our dream into an action. The material as well as moral support of our donators is very important and gives us courage to continue with our work, offering our fellow men, those things that many a times we take for granted but for many now have become a luxury.

We hope that we will find you supporting our work in the future as well.

Zielona Oaza na piątym piętrze

Grecja, listopad – grudzień 2014

W ciągu ostatnich dwóch miesięcy 2014 roku siedmioosobowa grupa z Aten zrealizowała specjalny projekt dla dużej organizacji non-profit o nazwie „Praksis”. Organizacja ta współpracuje z wolontariuszami i na wiele sposobów pomaga społeczności; na przykład przyjmuje imigrantów z całego świata i pomaga w załatwianiu wymaganych dokumentów. Ludziom bezdomnym udostępnia miejsce, gdzie mogą wziąć prysznic czy też zatrzymać się w ciągu dnia. Zapewnia im także odzież, opiekę medyczną oraz korzystanie z hosteli. Organizuje również dzienną opiekę dla dzieci, co umożliwia rodzicom szukanie zatrudnienia bądź pójście do pracy. Ich najnowszym osiągnięciem jest wyposażenie bogatej, różnojęzycznej biblioteki.

Naszym zamiarem było poprawienie wyglądu przestrzeni wypoczynkowej, znajdującej się na tarasie piątego piętra domu dla bezdomnych w centrum Aten. Używając wielu roślin i trochę starego drewna, przyniesionego z naszych domów, urządziliśmy kilka różnych miejsc do siedzenia, zasadziliśmy małe drzewa i rośliny oraz osłoniliśmy cały taras bambusoym płotem. Ostatecznym szlifem było rozwieszenie kilku niewielkich laminowanych plakatów, zawierających pozytywne teksty, w różnych miejscach budynku.

Na wiosnę, kiedy rośliny zazielenią się i zakwitną kwiaty, nowy ogród ujawni pełnię swego piękna. Zielona oaza wśród betonu i okolicznej nędzy z pewnością doceniona zostanie przez wszystkich odwiedzających.

Po ukończeniu projektu Greckie Towarzystwo Holozoficzne ku swej radości otrzymało list z podziękowaniami od centralnego biura „Praksis”.

Eine grüne Oase im 5. Stock

Griechenland, November – Dezember 2014

 

Von November bis Dezember 2014 führte eine Gruppe von sieben Personen aus Athen ein besonderes Projekt für eine große Non-Profit-Organisation namens “Praksis” durch. Die Organisation arbeitet mit freiwilligen Mitarbeitern und hilft der Gemeinde auf vielfältige Weise. Sie nimmt beispielsweise Flüchtlinge aus aller Welt in Empfang und hilft ihnen mit den notwendigen Papieren. Obdachlosen bietet sie eine Gelegenheit zum Duschen und einen Ort, wo sie sich tagsüber aufhalten können. Sie versorgt sie außerdem mit Kleidung, medizinischer Betreuung und verschafft ihnen Zugang zu Unterkünften. Tagsüber gibt es eine Kinderbetreuung, damit die Eltern die Möglichkeit haben, Arbeit zu suchen und arbeiten zu gehen. Die neueste Errungenschaft ist die Bereitstellung einer umfangreichen Bibliothek mit Büchern in verschiedenen Sprachen.

Unser Plan bestand darin, einen Außensitzplatz auf dem 5. Stock eines Gebäudes für Obdachlose in der Innenstadt von Athen zu verschönern. Mit vielen Pflanzen und altem Holz von zu Hause gestalteten wir verschiedene Sitzecken, pflanzten kleine Bäume und Pflanzen und schützten die gesamte Terrasse mit einem Bambuszaun.

Als Tüpfelchen auf dem i brachten wir überall im Gebäude ein paar kleine laminierte Plakate mit positiven Botschaften an.

Wenn im Frühling die Pflanzen zu grünen und blühen beginnen, wird der neue Garten seine ganze Schönheit entfalten. Diese grüne Oase inmitten von all dem Beton und Elend in der Umgebung, wird sicherlich von allen Besuchern geschätzt werden.

Nachdem das Projekt fertiggestellt war, konnte sich die Holosophische Gesellschaft Griechenland über einen Dankesbrief von der Zentrale von “Praksis” freuen.

Oasis verde en la quinta planta

En los dos últimos meses de 2014, un grupo de siete personas de Atenas llevó a cabo un proyecto especial para una gran organización sin ánimo de lucro, llamada Prakis. Esta organización trabaja con voluntarios y ayuda a la comunidad en diferentes áreas, como por ejemplo recibir a inmigrantes de todo el mundo y ayudarles con la documentación necesaria. Ofrece a las personas sin hogar un lugar donde puedan asearse o pasar el día y les provee con ropa, cuidados médicos y acceso a hostales. También ofrece un servicio de guardería que permite a los padres ir a buscar empleo o ir a trabajar. Su último logro ha sido el equipamiento de una amplia biblioteca en varios idiomas.

Nuestro proyecto consistía en mejorar las condiciones de una terraza, que se usaba como zona de estar exterior, en la quinta planta de un edificio para personas sin hogar, situado en el centro de Atenas. Con muchas plantas y maderas viejas de nuestras casas se crearon varias zonas de estar, se plantaron pequeños árboles y plantas y se protegió la terraza con una valla de bambú.

Como toque final se colocaron por todo el edificio pequeños pósteres plastificados que contenían mensajes positivos.

En primavera, cuando las plantas se regeneren y las flores empiecen a brotar, el nuevo jardín desplegará toda su belleza. Los visitantes apreciarán, sin duda, este oasis en medio de todo el cemento y miseria de los alrededores.

Al final del proyecto, la Asociación Holosófica de Grecia se complació por recibir una carta de agradecimiento de la oficina central de Praksis.

El apoyo material y moral de nuestros colaboradores es muy importante, y nos da valor para seguir adelante con nuestro trabajo, ofreciendo al prójimo estas cosas que damos por sentado, pero que para muchos se han convertido en un lujo.
