Israel, December 2021 and February 2022

We decided to support the international charity project Octopuses for Premature Babies. The association Laav in Israel was created by parents of such babies. The goal of this project is to help children born prematurely recover faster and feel comfortable. They have to initially live in an incubator with numerous tubes and droppers.

Newborns are constantly anxious, waving their hands, pulling out tubes. Thanks to the knitted octopus, children calm down, grasping with their tiny arms the tentacles of the octopus, which are shaped like an umbilical cord.

The thought that the newborn will have a small octopus, which it hugs, inspired us to knit them. Additionally we created greeting cards for the parents. We donated 20 octopuses and greeting cards to the local coordinator, who sends them further for sterilization and packaging. Only then the octopuses enter the hospital for newborns.

The realization that these little toys created by our hands will help babies in the very first stages of their lives fills our hearts with warmth and even more love.
