The Social Residential Service in Wels supports homeless people and those at risk of becoming homeless by providing basic necessities. It is a safe place and off the streets. People can take some time to relax, socialize, freshen up, and get a good meal. As well as providing basic necessities, the center provides professional advice and information services for those needing assistance.

In January 2021, we contacted the center and offered to prepare a warm meal once a month. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the center’s kitchen was restricted to their staff only. Therefore, we had to prepare about fifty meals at a private location.

We planned everything as best as possible online and ensured COVID-19 health and safety requirements were followed during the preparation in order to keep everyone safe.

On this occasion, we cooked some cabbage, Chinese cabbage, carrots and chickpeas partly sourced from local farms. This was served with noodles as the main course. For dessert, we made a hazelnut cocoa cake with vanilla cream.

When we asked for feedback, the head of the Service replied: “The food was delicious, especially the cake, which put a smile on everyone’s face.”
