It was our first assignment in the warehouse of the food bank Tischlein Deck Dich (the Wishing Table). We helped sort vegetables and fruit, separating the spoiled from the edible, which had been picked up by the organization’s trucks from various supermarkets in Switzerland.
Starting at 8 am, we sorted countless large pallets filled with boxes of veggies and fruits until 4:30 pm, with a one-hour lunch break. We had a great time together and were pleased to deliver a good outcome in the form of a considerable amount of still eatable food.
One of the highlights was a pink rose that appeared seemingly out of nowhere in one of the veggie boxes.
By the end of the day, we decided to support the food bank not just once but twice a month on Monday mornings. Our offer was greatly appreciated by the management of Tischlein Deck Dich and we look forward to joining them again in two weeks.
