Ukraine, March 2020

At a meeting in January, elderly from the geriatric boarding home asked us to teach them how to make paper flowers. Thus, we decided to conduct a class as we had done before. The previous crafts adorned their rooms and were given as gifts to relatives and friends.

This time, the elderly made crocuses and decorated glass vases. Volunteers brought blank corrugated paper which the participants neatly folded into flowers and bouquets.

Volunteers were happy to help the elderly make such flowers by themselves and the elderly were happy creating a spring bouquet. The atmosphere was relaxed and cozy. Time passed too quickly.

During handicrafts, the elderly sang their favorite songs as a sign of warm friendship and gratitude. We all spoke slowly, deliberately with intent. The participants took turns telling interesting and instructive life stories.

Some of the participants were over 90 years old. Nevertheless, they were active and wanted to learn something new.
