Ukraine, December 2019

In 2019 we held our first large-scale all-Ukrainian charity campaign to collect clothes for the patients of the geriatric hospital in Strelechie village, Kharkov. Volunteers from different cities of Ukraine collected approximately 150 large sacks of clothes. The hospital personnel and administration said that the collected items were vital for those needy people.

Volunteers of  Public Association Know Thyself in Kharkov have, on several occasions, collected clothes for the patients of the geriatric hospital in the village of Strelechie. Around 800 people living in this hospital need clothes, bedclothes and footwear.

EXPANDING THE GEOGRAPHY OF PARTICIPATION

This time other cities of Ukraine joined the collection campaign. Volunteers from other centers, friends and relatives, big cities and small villages, all participated in collecting the necessary items.

SORTING COLLECTED ITEMS

Having collected the items, volunteers at the centers began the sorting process. It was important to do that correctly according to the strict acceptance criteria for clothing.

After being sorted and packed, the items were sent by post to Know Thyself as Soul Center in Kharkov for a final check. Most of the items met the requirements and only very few clothes were not accepted. The volunteers felt inspired by the service.

Altogether, approximately 150 large sacks of clothing were collected.

DELIVERING THE CLOTHING TO THE HOSPITAL

Multiple delivery dates were coordinated with the hospital administration as several trips were necessary in order to deliver the collected items.

The personnel and administration of the geriatric center were grateful to those taking part in this charity action. They said that the collected items were very much needed by their residents.

SUMMING UP

It was the first large-scale all-Ukrainian charity event and helped us realize what a great impact we can have by helping others.

The event brought us together and warmed our hearts in serving others.
